Back in 2008, I started our Dog & Baby Support Line because I saw how overwhelming it could be for families trying to navigate life with a new baby and a dog. Sometimes all someone needs is a compassionate voice, practical guidance, and reassurance that they’re not alone.
In 2025 alone, we were able to support 223 families. Some reached out during those emotional first hours or days after bringing their baby home. Others called after a growl or bite, scared and unsure of what to do next. Every conversation is different, but each one begins the same way: by listening without judgment and helping families find a safe path forward. I connect callers to our licensed educators or other reputable resources.
My intentions remain the same today as they did in 2008, that every family feels heard, supported, and empowered during what can be one of the most stressful times in their lives.
If you know a family who could use this kind of support, please share our Dog & Baby Support Line: 877-247-3407.
If this support line has helped your family, I’d truly love to hear from you. Your updates remind me why this work matters, and I’m incredibly grateful to the volunteers who have given their time and hearts to make this service possible over the years. Jennifer Shryock
